Lettera Aperta “Educare alle culture altre”

In merito al brano tratto dal libro “Duccio e il mistero della musica telepatica” e riportato nel libro di testo per scuole elementari “Leggermente plus” di Giunti (edizioni del Borgo) l’associazione delle 2° generazioni italo-cinesi ASSOCINA rinnova l’appello a una maggior sensibilizzazione nell’approccio con le culture altre.

È encomiabile il fatto di voler rappresentare una dimensione multietnica sia a scuola che nel quotidiano; ma temiamo che, inconsapevolmente, si sia dipinta un’immagine ancora stereotipata della realtà dei bambini asiatici/cinesi e in particolare di quelli di 2° generazione.

Nella realtà di oggi, sempre meno spesso si incontrano casi di bambini che frequentano asili e scuole con difetti di pronuncia così marcati poiché molti di loro sono nati e cresciuti in Italia.

Quello che più preoccupa è l’espressione con cui si descrive la reazione della bambina cinese nei termini “Non si offende mai quando la prendiamo in giro”, che può far sembrare che si giustifichi un atto (collettivo, non lo scambio di scherzi fra due amici) di per sé negativo. Come potrebbe un insegnante sgridare o richiamare dei “bulli” se già in un libro si descrive la presa in giro collettiva (di qualunque tipo essa sia) come metodo per approcciarsi agli altri (propri coetanei)?

Essendo un testo scolastico, e quindi con l’obiettivo di insegnare/educare, difficilmente si può pensare che rappresentazioni di questo tipo possano favorire una maggior comprensione di realtà diverse o supportare i docenti nel loro compito di educatori.

Il futuro dei bambini in Italia passa dai libri di testo: è qui che possiamo immaginare una società migliore, per tale ragione auspichiamo una maggiore sensibilità degli editori nella rappresentazione delle minoranze e delle differenze culturali.

Open Letter “Educating on Other Cultures”

Regarding the excerpt from the book “Duccio and the mystery of telepathic music” published inside the textbook for Italian primary schools “Leggermente plus” by Giunti (Edizioni del Borgo), the Association of Second Generation Italian-Chinese ASSOCINA renews its appeal to adopt more sensitivity in the approach to other cultures in Italy.

Depicting a multi-ethnic dimension at school and in everyday life is praiseworthy. However, we fear that, unconsciously, a stereotyped image of Asian/Chinese children, and in particular of 2nd generation children, has been provided.

In today’s context, the number of children attending kindergartens and schools with such pronunciations has decreased considerably as most of them are born and raised in Italy.

Furthermore, what is most concerning is the expression used to describe the reaction of the Chinese girl in the words ‘She never takes offence when we make fun of her‘, which may suggest that such an act (a collective one, not the exchange of jokes between two friends)—itself negative—is being justified. How could a teacher rebuke or address bullying if a textbook describes a collective teasing (of whatever kind) as a way to approach others (their peers)?

This is a school textbook, published with the aim of teaching/educating. It is difficult to think that this type of storytelling can foster a greater understanding of different cultures or support teachers in their educational task. As the future of children in Italy passes through textbooks, in order to build a better society, we hope that publishers will adopt a greater sensitivity in the representation of minorities and cultural differences.

关于在Giunti(Edizioni del Borgo)的意大利小学教科书 “Leggermente plus “中出版的 “杜奇奥和心灵感应音乐之谜 “一书中的故事，意大利华裔第二代协会再次呼吁在意大利应当增强对其它风俗文化的认知与了解意识。

这种想要体现出在学校和日常生活中的多民族特点的行为是值得称赞的，但我们所担心的是，在不知不觉中，人们对亚裔/华裔儿童，特别是第二代儿童的现实情况已经有了一个刻板印象。

在现今，因很多孩子是在意大利出生和长大的，所以在幼儿园和学校上学的孩子有如此明显语言缺陷的情况越来越少。

此外，最让人担心的是 “我们逗她的时候，她从来不会生气 “这两句话描述中国孩子的反应时的表述，这可能意味着一种本身就是负面的行为（集体的，而不是两个朋友之间的玩笑交流）是有道理的。如果一本书已经把集体取笑（不管是哪种取笑）说成是接近他人（同龄人之间）的一种方式，老师怎么来批评那些’欺负人’的孩子呢？

这是一本学校的教科书，创作的目的是为了教学/教育。我们很难认为这样的表述能够促进人们对不同现实的理解，或者支持教师完成教育任务。

意大利儿童的未来就是通过这些教科书来实现的：正是在这里，我们可以想象一个更美好的社会，这就是为什么我们希望出版商在表现少数民族和文化差异方面有更大的敏感度。
